How To Solve An Electrical Problem With The Testing Tools ?

By Scott Rodgers

Electrical issues and irregularities demand a timely examination and the relevant solution. If ignored these minor faults can take the shape of a potential hazard. Such negligence is often a consequence of the absence of basic electrical testing tools at your home.

The electrical testing tools include the custom pliers, screwdrivers, voltage testers, GFCI testers, AC line splitters, circuit breaker identifiers and the digital multimeter. Once you have equipped your home with all these tools then work is almost half done. It is also very important to include the basic testing assignments in you weekly itinerary. Here are few directives that would assist you with the proper handling of these tools.

One of the simplest testing device and yet the most influential one is the voltage tester. It is easy to handle and use. It consists of a neon bulb indicator that notifies whether an electric outlet or an appliance is conducting current or not. The tester’s leads are connected to the terminals of the outlet making sure that the electricity is in continuous supply. A glowing neon bulb indicates the presence of current in the circuit whereas no glow points towards trouble in the form of a short-circuit or a breakdown.

Make sure that your tester’s voltage capacity lies in the range of 0-500 volts. Alternatively the electric test pens deserve to be considered once due to their easy to follow manual.

In order to ensure electrical safety to the areas where water is in the vicinity of the wiring/outlet, the GFCI testers should be installed. A GFCI tester trips off the normal electricity supply when contact with water is detected.

A digital multimeter is another electrical testing device that notifies you about the state of the circuit being tested and whether it is an open one, a closed one or a shorted one. It should have an impedance of at least 10 mega ohms.

The AC line splitters are significant enough in the electrical testing scheme as they split the live wire and the neutral wire from each other to eliminate any uncertainty. In addition it can be used for the voltage determination as well. To diagnose a circuit breakdown though, specialized instruments such as circuit breaker identifiers are used.

To assist the testing campaign, some custom electrical tools such as pliers and screwdrivers are a regular affair and must find a place in the electrical tool kit.
