Seeing to this very need of water purifiers, manufacturers produce them in huge variety. The method of ultraviolet germicidal light being used in purification and disinfection of water, air and surface is a unique and rapid method, without the use of heat or chemicals.
It is proven scientifically that 85% of child sickness and 65% of adult diseases are produced by water-borne viruses, bacteria and intestinal protozoa. Inappropriate water treatment can lead to heath problems – hepatitis B, tuberculosis, meningitis, typhoid fever, and cholera. All such disorders are well handled and removed by this water treatment process.
In a typical UV system, approximately 95 percent of the radiation passes through a special quartz glass sleeve and into the untreated water that flows in a thin film over the lamp. The glass sleeve keeps the lamp at an ideal temperature of 104 F. UV radiation affects microorganisms by altering the DNA in the cells and impeding reproduction. UV treatment does not remove organisms from the water, it merely inactivates them.
The system is extremely economical; hundreds of gallons may be treated for each penny of operating cost.
Low power consumption is the system’s greatest advantage. Ultraviolet water purification possesses advantages over a more widespread treatment like chlorination. These mostly have to do with the toxicity levels of chlorine. UV does not contribute to poor-tasting water like chlorine, nor is it chemically active.
UV based water purifier work well in eliminating the micro- organism from water, but what about the impurities that stick to the water as it travel from purifier to the consumer’s glass through rest of the plumbing. Well, for this, better install the system closer to the point of use.
Since, the ultraviolet purification systems are electricity driver, some people take it as its disadvantage. But, let me tell, this not something to contemplate whenever, health of the family is utmost.
